Lewis Ginter's GardenFest of Lights

Submitted by Lisa Adams

Lewis Ginter's Festival of Lights is fun for all ages. It is one of my favorite things to do during the Christmas season. Experience it for the first time or make it a yearly tradition for you and your family. Lewis Ginter even offers "GardenFest for Fido" with the small $2.00 per dog donation benefiting the Richmond SPCA. Every year the exhibits are different. The park is not huge so little ones will have an opportunity to see all there is to see. There are special days like Caroling Tuesday and Crafty Wednesdays, which will provide opportunities to experience different things as you take in the park. Be sure to check their event calendar so you won't miss out on any of the fun.

Lewis Ginter is located at 1800 Lakeside Avenue Richmond, VA 23228

Pearl's Cupcake Shoppe

Submitted by Lisa Adams

Pearl's Cupcake Shoppe
5812 Grove Avenue
Richmond, VA 23226

I love cupcakes but truth be told, there are only two of us in our house so I rarely make them. Who needs all that yumminess sitting around the house tempting them? Not me! That's what makes Pearl's so good. You can buy a single cupcake or a dozen, all the same flavor or mix it up. Today, for my birthday, Amy Baker got me six cupcakes in a variety of flavors. Of course, I had to share with my team members (but I didn't want to) so I picked my favorite, the chocolate taste of heaven with coconut topping. I'm not sure what they use in the frosting because it doesn't seem like frosting at all. It is light, airy and tastes a bit like marshmallow fluff topped with a generous amount of coconut. To say I love this cupcake would be an understatement. It's been a mere 2 hours and I am already dreaming of my next one. Good thing I gave the rest of the box away or I'd be sneaking bites under my desk as I type this.

I highly recommend Pearl's and their wonderful cupcakes.

Glorious Christmas Nights Production - A Storybook Christmas

Submitted by Lisa Adams

If you have never checked out, West End Assembly of God's Christmas Production, then let this be the year that you do. It is always the highlight of my Christmas season and I can't recommend it enough.  Every year WEAG, as it is affectionately known by the community, puts on a spectacular production filled with song, great stories, flying angels, elaborate sets and costume changes and always included is the message of the true meaning of Christmas. Children will be mesmerized as will the adults. The cast is incredibly talented and it is entirely made up of volunteers. The tickets this year are $18 a piece and all the money earned, goes towards funding WEAG's local and global outreach and missions programs. Check out the web site and get your tickets as soon as they go on sale October 7th. I'm sure it will become the highlight of your Christmas season, too.

Thai Flavor Restaurant

Thai Flavor in Glen Allen
Submitted by Lisa Adams.

Vegetarian Pad Kee Mao

About a year ago, my friend Shelly introduced me to Thai Flavor. It's not a big restaurant but its dishes are big on flavor. After just one meal, I knew I would be back again and again. I became a vegetarian in January 2013 so quite a few of the restaurants I loved now had nothing to offer me. Not Thai Flavor. They can pretty much make any dish vegetarian by omitting the fish sauce and swapping out the meat for tofu. My friends, who eat meat, love the variety too. My favorite dish is the Vegetarian Pad Kee Mao; it's a no meat version of drunken noodles and with every bite it just gets better and better. I will get it to go and order an extra order of mixed veggies cooked in the sauce and it is plenty for 2 people to share. I also highly recommend the Spicy Chili Basil. Of course, you don't have to take my word for it. Check out the comments on Yelp and be sure to visit soon.
